Before the distance

The first distance in this album fits into a gesture: someone stops crossing a familiar threshold, and the other stops asking why. The street stays the same. The bond begins to change.

They once shared the sounds of the neighbourhood, their families’ greetings and the summer rain. Then come words that divide houses, names and people into two sides. What they lived together loses its authority against what they are taught to think.

The Other Side of Us follows these two people through eight songs. The story opens towards other lives: a boy in a photograph, a house still prepared for someone absent, two mothers waiting for news. In these everyday scenes, the consequences of separation become difficult to look away from.

The lyrics leave the country and the conflict unnamed. Those missing coordinates keep the focus on the relationship between the characters. One question runs through the album: what happens when we begin to know someone by their side and stop recognising them by their name?

The booklet brings together the English lyrics with their Spanish translations. The commentary considers the scenes in each song from an editorial perspective; other readings remain possible. The images are artistic recreations.

The first song returns to a house whose threshold they still knew how to cross.
